Event Title: RON TEIXEIRA TRIO & the 2019 Jazz Scholarship Winners
Event Story: The Space Coast Jazz Society is featuring some of Brevard’s finest seasoned musicians along with the winners of the 2019 Jazz Scholarships. Pianist Ron Teixeira, bass player Al Dodds, and drummer Stan Soloko will perform a wide ranging program of jazz favorites for jazz society members and guests. In addition to the performance by the trio, two graduating Brevard County high school seniors will each be awarded a $1,000 jazz scholarship. These scholarships are designed to encourage Brevard high school seniors to continue their studies of jazz in college. The program will also include cameo performances by the winners along with the Ron Teixeira Trio. Teixeira is a graduate of the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. After graduating, he played for more than 20 years at jazz venues and as a studio musician in New York City. He returned to his hometown of Cocoa Beach and has been the house pianist at the nationally award winning Heidi’s Jazz Club in Cocoa Beach, FL for the past 17 years. He is also a member of the DanRonic Project which performed on the SCJS stage in October 2018 and he teaches jazz. Bass player Al Dodds has both a Bachelor and a Master degree in music from the University of North Texas and drummer Stan Soloko has performed on cruise ships for many years and is a local favorite. This concert will be a special event of dedicated music, light fare and celebration of the scholarship winners. According to Teixeira “expect some surprises and some dance tunes”, so bring your dancing shoes. As for the scholarship winners, Teixeira says, “these high school students are unbelievable. They are progressing much faster and at a younger age than in the past, probably because of their access to music and ideas on the Internet.” OPEN TO THE PUBLIC – general admission tickets can be purchased online below or paid at the door: – $10 for members of the Jazz Society and Rockledge Country Club, – $15 for guests, – Students are free. Food and beverages are available for an additional cost. The Rockledge Country Club is located at 1591 S. Fiske Blvd., Rockledge, FL 32955.
